Saurian brandy Prop’s log

What is it:
Saurian brandy is an alcoholic drink, a type of brandy manufactured by Saurians, a reptilian-type species from the planet Sauria.

A popular drink produced by distilling wine, this potent beverage was served in a crook-necked bottle and was a favourite among Starfleet crews by the 2260s.

That brandy, on a side note, was used in every iteration of Star Trek since. Evidently, it’s the intergalactic standard beverage at the best (and worst) events. The Terrans drank it to forget their troubles, get drunk or let others get drunk.

During the Kelvin timeline, in 2263, Saurian brandy was illegal in the Federation. Despite this, Dr. McCoy kept a small supply aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.

This type of brandy was also an inspiration for a fanzine (magazine made by fans) called the Saurian Brandy Digest.

Former designs:
During the years one type of bottle was used to display the brandy. It was the George Dickel Tennessee Sour Mash Whisky “powderhorn” bottle, that had the characteristic curve and leather straps. The liquor itself had the appearance of normal brandy (transparent caramel).

Used materials:
The glass bottle came standard with the leather strips and a wooden stopper. The labels were left off and after that, the leather was coloured with (what we believe, Angelus Brick) leather paint.

The bottles are not produced any more but are available on eBay. You still have to change the appearance yourself. Prices range from €30 to €80.

You can take a closer look at the bottle during one of the Sector 31 meetings.
